The South Barrington Garden Club
2023 marks our 30th Anniversary. The South Barrington Garden Club was formed in 1993 by a group of five women and quickly grew. They chose the rudbeckia as the club flower. Committed to community beautification, and horticultural education, the garden club holds monthly meetings, workshops and field trips which are supported by the South Barrington Park District.
In August of 1999 the South Barrington Garden Club joined the Garden Clubs of Illinois (GCI), A Member of National Garden Clubs, INC. GCI (Garden Clubs of Illinois) has awarded the South Barrington Garden Club many top awards for outstanding club achievements and horticultural activities. The club continues to receive awards from State, Regional and National divisions of National Garden Clubs, Inc.
The Club published a cookbook and in 2007 was awarded first place for cookbooks from both Garden Clubs of Illinois and National Garden Clubs, Inc.
Today its members have provided Horticultural College Scholarships, sponsored plant sales, initiated and maintained gardens and planters for the village as well as promoted plantings at Stillman Nature Center, nursing homes, women’s shelters and a Habitat for Humanity home.
Meetings are generally held on the first Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. A listing of club meetings can be found our website- www.sbgclub.org as well as on the South Barrington Park District web site www.sbpd.net and also in their publications.
After the Covid restrictions were lifted, we are holding in person meetings at the South Barrington Tennis Club, 3 Tennis Club Lane, South Barrington, IL.
South Barrington Garden Club welcomes all those interested to attend their monthly meetings.
